For this experiment, we opted to explore body movement and language through our unique approach. Our methods were centered around Arabic gestures, performative storytelling, and the expressive language of music.
1. Arabic Gestues
The objective of this experiment is to provide participants with an educational experience regarding non-verbal communication elements, such as gestures, that may be unfamiliar to them. It is worth noting that while certain gestures may appear similar across different cultures, their interpretations and significance can vary significantly.
2. Performative Storytelling
In this experiment, participants were tasked with replicating a set of instructions, comprising either a routine or a sequence of tasks. They were required to execute these instructions using body movements, aiming to convey the information without relying on verbal communication.
3. The Language of Music
Through this experiment, we aimed to explore how people express themselves physically and whether the culturally varied, musical rhythms and languages they hear influences this expression. We were curious to see how this might affect one’s ability to move. To document our findings, we utilised lights as a method of observation.
