Patterns of Everyday Power

Research Question: How do everyday habits, rituals, and patterns influence our behaviour in space, and what happens when we interrupt them?

Experiment Approach: The experiment used self-observation and everyday-life intervention. By documenting our repeated behaviours and intentionally disrupting selected patterns, we reflected on changes in awareness, feelings, and behaviour. The findings also helped us clarify the meaning of habit, ritual, and pattern, and informed the development of our later instruction-based experiments.

Experiment Overview: The four group members individually observed routines, habits, rituals, and patterns in their everyday lives. We first identified repeated behaviours that often happen without conscious attention, and then experimented with interrupting or changing some of them to observe how this affected our daily experiences.
